Veterinary Emergency
Anonymous writes "I work at two veterinary emergency clinics. I have personally seen the effects Hartz flea products have had on many numerous cats and dogs. Pet owners be AWARE you are not saving money by buying Hartz because it is cheaper then Advantage or Revolution. You are risking your pet's life! A short time after applying Hartz flea control to their pets; may owners have had to rush them in because that were having seizure - like convolutions. These convolutions are uncontrollable , causes the body temperature to rise, and if not treated correctly or right away, causes death or long term organ damage. I beg everyone to PLEASE make this aware to all the pet owners you know. Or if you are in the store and see someone thinking about buying these products, educate them! For the sake of the animals... EDUCATE! "

hartz isnt the only deadly one
Anonymous writes "At 10 p.m. on a wed. I accidentlly gave my cat's "Dyna" and "Moo" the wrong flea medication-used for dogs, and did not realize it until the next day when they both were twiching and flipping out, so I gave them a bath. Not better- In a panic I called a vet. I was told to bring them in a.s.a.p.- which I did. They told me that SENTRY/SENTRY PRO was not good for them as well as HARTZ, or any of the over the counter flea medication. They told me to wash the cats with DAWN dish soap to help extract the oil from their fur and skin. The Chemicals in most over the counter flea treatments is toxic and fatal. The antidote-valium-Diazipan. The MOST SCARY THING THE PACKAGE READS: HAZARDS TO HUMANS AND DOMESTIC ANIMALS. Still in tears as I watchfully monitor "moo" the smallest cat as she is still shaking and crying with fear. The next 48 hrs. she could get worse or better. Praying its better. Their needs to be more info out there for pet lovers about the chemicals used for animal care. "

tetrachlorvinphos is DEADLY to your pets
Anonymous writes "All you have to do it is type TETRACHLORVINPHOS into GOOGLE and you will see just how bad this pesticide is. Yet HARTZ puts it in most of their flea products. For example HARTZ Ultra Guard Plus Flea and Tick Spray. Avoid this pesticide and HARTZ in general until they remove this pesticide from all of their products.
I know from personal expeirence that if you get the HARTZ Ultra Guard Plus Flea and Tick spray on your skin it burns and can leave rash marks on your skin that last for days and sometimes weeks. Thier is no point to put this product on a pet that your trying to save from fleas. Your better off giving them a DAWN flea bath. DAWN will not kill the flea eggs but it does kill all the fleas on your pet. You can give your pet a DAWN bath 1 or 2 times per month. DAWN is completely harmless to your pets. "

missing hair/scratching all the time
Anonymous writes "I am very upset by everything I am reading....How is it possible for a company to continue to sell products that are reported to cause so much death and or sickness. I have several pets and I have never used Hartz until a week ago when my children picked up a bottle of shampoo from the local walmart. I thought it was a just a fluke that my dog started to scratch more after I bathed her. I still had not put two and two together until tonight. I bought the whole line of products and I am seeing side effects in each pet. I want to know what I can do to help get these products removed from the shelf..I know I will be taking the remainder of the shampoo's I used back to the store along with all thhe crpet powders and sprays. I wish they would give me a problem in returning these items. I really fell a need to assist in anyway I can...please tell me how I can help"

Seisure from mice toys
Anonymous writes "My husband and I have been bewildered by the seisures that have suddently taken over our cat Mocha. We had to find out what could have caused this. I knew that his food was okay since we had to investigate that a while back when he was getting urine infections. Turns out most cat foods are filled with ash, a rock, as a filler. It builds up in their body and can kill them. We started using Felidae, an affordable all natural cat food and he has been very healthy until now. As our investigation into this new threat developed I looked up the toy manufacturer Hartz and sure enough the products can kill and cause seisures. The only product we have purchased were the soft balls and little mice. They are sold in 3 and 5 packs and are a variety of colours. Today I found bits of it in his litter box. PLEASE DO NOT USE THESE MICE TOYS. Our cat loves them and plays with them for hours. It may have caused irreversible damage to the best pet we have every had. The extent of the damage to our cat is still unknown. We will find out the results shortly from our Vet. We are grateful for websites like this one. It was easy to find and had it not been, our cat would still be slowly killed by these lovable but deadly toys. After I complete this message I will be making a package to send to my pet store and supermarket where I have purchased these products. I urge you to do the same. There are alternatives and consumers need to be informed in order to protect their pets. "

How about some actual help on this site!!!!
Anonymous writes "I won't actually bother asking the SIMPLE question about a hartz product that I needed answered. The reason being is that I was able to get the advise I needed after searching many other sites for people with a similar issue.
It would seem that a site this dedicated to the support of pet owners that have had varying issues with Hartz products would actually provide some practical advice. Instead we get a bunch of stories and a list of government
bureaucrat's we should call.
It would be
nice if there were even one small section of the site that gave some
advice as to the best course of action for EACH Hartz product. After searching the forums past countless stories of the "death of the litter" and "Hartz Sux" and "This stuff is crap" you may accidentally stumble upon a post worth reading.
It seems that the people behind this site and members of this site are moreconcerned with the class action payday than the actual animals that are suffering! "
Note: There's your calling... start your own pet advocacy website. I'll help you out in whatever capacity.

My Sick Dog
Anonymous writes "My 70 pound, 6 year old dog is very, very ill from Hartz 4 in 1. We flead our three cats and our dog last week on friday evening. By Saturday morning Cory, my dog, was vomitting and shaking. My cats are fine. He couldn't keep anything down for the first day. It is now Sunday he is still very sick and lethargic. He is drinking small amounts of water, mostly water I syringe into his mouth, and has eaten some plain yogurt and some bits of cheese that I hand fed him. We have tried to feed him some chicken and some apple sauce, he refused both. He still wants to go outside, and he can walk around but most of the time he just looks disoriented and wobbly. Right now he is huffing air in and out of his nose. He's acting like he's in pain. I am so scared he is going to die, or that we are going to take him to the vet and have to put him to sleep because we can't afford the treatments. Or that he is going to have to be put to sleep anyway. I wish I had googled Hartz before and found your website- I would have used something else on him. Please keep my dog in your thoughts. "

Anonymous writes "My little kittens name is Tuffy she is 4 weeks old and is now very sick. We got Hartz milk replacer and gave it to her, she became sick. | Emergency Vet Assistant |
Anonymous writes "I've read several stories on this site and I'm sad to say that I know dozens more just like it as I work at an Animal Emergency Clinic. The individuals that say "some animals just have reactions to it like people do to some medications" should really reconsider. If the same amount of people were being affected as the amount of cats we see with Hartz toxicity then there would be millions in damages awards in a class action lawsuit and the medication would have been pulled off the shelf so quick heads would spin. There are simply TOO MANY cats having the same reaction, we see cats in our clinic every other week with it, excessive salivation, muscle tremors, paralysis..our poor vibrating kitties as we call them. Everytime I'm in near pet care products for flea and tick prevention in Walmart I tell everyone I see DON'T USE HARTZ OR SERGEANTS. Spend the extra money for the good stuff Advantage, Advantix (dogs only), and Frontline. "

Hoping
Anonymous writes "I recently took in a kitten that my friend rescued from an apartment complex. I'm not sure how old he is, im guessing less than 6 months. My friend bought the Hartz 3 in 1 flea and tick spray and i've used it twice on my kitten since i've had him. I used it about 4 hours ago and i noticed afterwards he was sleeping for so long, he normally doesnt go more than 30 minutes sleeping.
I went to research the product and its side effects and found this website, i am so terrified that he is going to be sick.
He just seems sluggish and recluctant to play, he's in a sort of daze. Also, when he's sleeping he looks like he's having nightmares.
If anything happens to my precious kitten, be assured this company will suffer by me through the court system"
